One of the Panellists at the Wild Health Summit was Lorraine Pyefinch, a Director of Best Practice Software.

Best Practice Software was created in 2004 by Lorraine and her husband, Dr Frank Pyefinch, who brings users the benefits of a busy and successful career as a respected General Practitioner. Frank and Lorraine both have more than two decade’s experience as Australasia’s pioneers of medical software development.

Over the past 15 years, the company has evolved to not only create clinical and management software for general practice, but also for allied health professionals and specialists.

A private company driven by engagement with its users, Best Practice has remained true to its founding principles of supporting doctors, evolving to meet the changing needs within Australasian healthcare.  All by keeping in touch with their users.

This approach has earned the company a reputation in the market for quality products, excellent customer service and meaningful user engagement.

Continual improvement has been a hallmark of Best Practice Software’s growth. “In response to feedback, we’ve implemented many new features and also developed value-added services, working closely with Government and third party partners”. Lorraine said. “One of our most exciting new developments is the Best Health App which is currently undergoing BETA testing at General Practices in Queensland”.

The Best Health App will take GP/Patient communication to a new level.  “If you’re a Bp Premier customer, the Best Heath App will make it easier than ever to connect with your patients, give them access to their Health Summaries and the ability to send them relevant Health Fact Sheets tailored for their wellbeing direct to their phone” Lorraine said.  “For patients, it will be an exclusive, confidential link with their Practice. In our testing, patients have told us they not only love the fact that it’s free and easy to download, but that connection with their Practice is just a click away”.

Bp Premier, Best Practice’s General Practice Management and Clinical software, is the product that is the “bread and butter” of Best Practice and one of the mainstays of the medical software landscape in Australia.

As the customer base has expanded, so has the services that Best Practice provides.  Their local Support team, based at the Bundaberg Operations Hub, Hamilton NZ Operations Centre and Sydney Business Centre make customer service their main priority.

Equipping our Bp Premier customers with learning and knowledge aids is another major priority. An extensive Knowledge Base is available within the software and is being consistently updated as new enhancements are developed.

“Like our software, our Knowledge Base has also evolved” Lorraine said. “When we first started it was mainly static documents. Now it contains everything from instructional videos to recorded tutorials, to enhance learning outcomes”.

For those wanting more, an experienced team of training specialists conduct a range of training programs, including Classroom, Online and Remote.

Lorraine said the team of experts are really making a difference, helping customers to get the most out of the software. “There’s nothing like sitting in a room with an experienced teacher, finding out the latest hints and tips and being able to ask questions and get personal tuition” Lorraine said. “Our Bp Classroom sessions are held throughout the year, mainly in capital cities and larger regional areas and are very popular”.

Remote training is also gaining in popularity. Lorraine said it’s an effective way of training a whole team, while they are still at work. “It can be highly customised to suit a Practice’s need, and, with one flat fee per hour, it’s a very cost effective way of getting a lot of knowledge to a lot of people” Lorraine said. “All of our sessions are recorded and provided to participants via private link, so they can refresh at a later stage, or use as a training tool for new staff”.

Continual development is a hallmark of Best Practice and Lorraine said their future focus is very much on the Cloud.  “Development is well underway for Bp Titanium, which will provide a single platform with features tailored for the needs of General Practice Doctors and Practice Managers, Allied Health Practitioners and Specialists” Lorraine said. “Our first release will be an Allied Health focused version, for those who don’t currently use an integrated software solution. While this continues to evolve, we will be developing our General Practice product”.

And amongst all this hard work, the Best Practice team are preparing to share knowledge (with some fun thrown in) with their customers, partners and industry at their next Summit.  “Our Bp Premier Summits are always well attended and we are looking forward to our next one, to be held in May 2020 in Brisbane,” Lorraine said. “We have some excellent industry speakers, workshops and our team members presenting, with some fun thrown in. Anyone wanting to register their interest can email bpsummit@bpsoftware.net.”.
