Daniel McCabe

First Assistant Secretary – Medicare Benefits and Digital Health, Department of Health and Aged Care

Daniel McCabe joined the Department of Health and Aged Care in June 2015. Prior to commencing his current role in early 2023, Daniel was First Assistant Secretary of Benefits Integrity & Digital Health Division (BIDHD). He had the responsibility of establishing a policy platform for digital health and works with the Australian Digital Health Agency (AHDA) to increase the uptake and usage of My Health Record (MHR).

Daniel also had oversight of the relationship with Services Australia to improve the customer interface on health and ageing transactions to providers and customers. He was also responsible for protecting the integrity of Australia’s health payments system through prevention, identification and treatment of incorrect claiming, inappropriate practice and fraud by health care providers, corporates and their employees and approved suppliers.
