Karen Booth

President, Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association

Karen Booth has worked as an RN and manager in general practice since 1998. Areas of expertise include prevention, immunisation, infection control, diabetes, chronic disease care coordination, data management, accreditation, setup of systems in general practices, including nurse led clinics supporting a team approach to care. Karen has a special interest in health checks for people with mental health and developmental issues.

Karen has advised on a number of guidelines, including the RACGP, and has participated in the Australian Health Policy Collaboration. Karen is skilled in health policy, workforce development and strengthening the role of nurses in primary health care. Karen has over a decade’s experience advising on national health reform and health workforce, including the MBS Review, National 10 Year Primary Health Care Plan, Nurse Practitioner 10 Year Plan. Karen is a current member of the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce. Karen is a member of APNA, AAPM, ACPIC, AICD. Karen is also a board member of the Australian Self Care Alliance (ASCA).
